Important Message from St John Parent Council - April 2025
Enough is Enough — Let’s Make St. John Community & Kingston Road Village Safer for Everyone
Our community has seen too many pedestrian safety incidents — including a pedestrian struck by a car outside our school, and the tragic death of a young woman within the last year. This isn’t just a statistic. It’s a wake-up call and the St John Catholic School Parent Council (CSPC) needs your help to amplify the voice of our community and demand change to keep our families safe.
Despite being a school and family-heavy neighbourhood, Kingston Road Village continues to face dangerous driver behaviour:
Over 50% of drivers speed through school zones, even during school hours
Red light running near schools causes nearly 1 in 3 serious intersection crashes
“Slow Down” lawn signs may raise awareness, but Canadian studies show they don’t change driver behavior for long
It’s time we demand the tools that actually work to protect our kids, our seniors, and our neighbours:
We are calling on the City to install three safety measures in Kingston Road Village — especially around our St. John school community. So please share with your neighbours and friends. The more of us that demand this, the more the government will feel the pressure to enact these measures and change dangerous driving behaviour.
Please help us solve these for our community. We are calling on all parents and guardians to please sign up for all of the below. They take less than 5 minutes of your time to complete:
A “Watch Your Speed” sign: https://www.toronto.ca/services-payments/streets-parking-transportation/road-safety/vision-zero/safety-initiatives/watch-your-speed-program/
A Red Light Camera at Kingston Rd & Glen Manor https://www.toronto.ca/services-payments/streets-parking-transportation/traffic-management/pavement-markings/red-light-cameras/
An ASE Camera in our school zone - https://www.toronto.ca/services-payments/streets-parking-transportation/road-safety/vision-zero/safety-initiatives/automated-speed-enforcement/
Let’s all do our part to ensure no more lives are lost.
For our kids. For our neighbours. For St. John Community, Families and Parish and for Kingston Road Village.

- “Watch Your Speed” radar signs reduce speeds by up to 10 km/h
- Red light cameras cut down serious intersection crashes by up to 40%
- Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras catch speeders where it matters most — near schools
