Dear St. John parents and guardians,

Screen for COVID-19 Symptoms Every Day
Toronto is seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases in the community. During this time, please continue with daily COVID-19 symptom screening for students and adults.  This includes screening on weekends and holidays.  Every student must complete a COVID-19 screening before coming to school each day and a parent/guardian must sign the COVID-19 Passport.  By signing the passport, you are indicating that your child is well enough to attend school and is free of COVID-19 symptoms.

Sending an ill child to school puts our entire community at risk.

If your child has one or more symptoms of COVID-19 listed on the screening passport:
  • Keep your child home, even if the symptoms are mild.
  • Siblings and other children in the home must also stay home.
  • Arrange for your child to get tested or contact your health care provider.
  • Without testing, your child and their siblings must stay home for 10 days. A doctor's note is not needed for return to school.
  • Monitor your family for symptoms. Adults must stay home if they have one or more symptoms.

If your child displays or develops symptoms while at school:
  • The ill child is placed in the isolation room near the library.  Any siblings are also removed from their class.
  • Parents/guardians will be telephoned and are expected to pick up the ill child and siblings as soon as possible.  If you are planning on having your children tested, the school can provide you with test kits when you pick up your child(ren).
  • Please follow the direction on the COVID-19 Decision Tree and Return-to-School Attestation Form which will be provided to you upon pick up.
  • Parents and guardians are not permitted in the school or school yard this year.  If you are dropping off a child late, please ring the front bell and a staff member will check the child’s passport and ensure they are brought to their class.
  • Please find a PDF version of April’s Covid Check Passport.  Students will be taking a copy home in the coming days.  Please ensure that the correct date is signed when doing the daily covid check with your children.

Stop Signs on Lyall:  As part of a student safety initiative new stop signs have been installed at the intersection of Lyall Ave. and Osborne Ave.  Road bar markings will not be painted until better weather arrives.  For those driving who use Lyall Ave. when dropping-off / picking-up students please take notice of these new stop signs to ensure the safety of students and other pedestrians using the intersection.  Thank you to all those who advocated to get the stops installed for the safety of all.
Dress Code:  This is a reminder that students are to be in full dress code while at school as outlined in the student agenda.  The school has scheduled dress down days and children can dress down for their birthdays.  Staff will continue to monitor in their classrooms.  We are asking for your support with this.
Photo retake Day:   Due to a school cancellation, St. John has been able to secure a picture retake day for this coming Friday, March 26th in the afternoon.  The priority is to have photos taken for those students that were absent or have returned from online learning and also for any grade 8s (both online or in-person) that have not taken their graduation photos.
Please contact the school if you have any questions.

Thank you for your ongoing cooperation and flexibility as we continue to navigate the challenging landscape of this school year.  As always, the health and safety of our school community is our top priority.
