April 8
Dear TCDSB Families,
As you are likely aware through previous communications, the Toronto Catholic District School Board has been working to ensure that all students who require technology to learn at home have access to devices to enable full participation in distance learning.
Board staff have been working with vendors to make this happen as quickly as possible. We are pleased to report that several thousand laptops will be available on loan to families whose children require access to technology and who lack the means to acquire their own devices. We are hoping to begin distributing these devices starting the week of April 14th. Given the large number of requests that have come to us, either through the parent survey, or through direct contact with the school Principal, we anticipate that it may take up to three weeks to complete the distribution in a safe and secure manner.
We ask for your patience and understanding as we work through this process during these unprecedented times. This is new territory for all of us, and we are continuing to respond to evolving needs and concerns as best as possible.
Our curriculum staff have designed and implemented a robust professional learning program for teachers to support them with distance learning, and over one thousand teachers have participated in these sessions. Please be assured that the teachers, support staff, school administrators, and central office staff are working to ensure that connections are being made between teachers and students, and we know that teachers are doing what they can to reach out to families with learning ideas and assignments in the interim.
Connections between your child’s teacher are being made via phone for assignments so that your child does not miss learning opportunities while they await a technology device. Should you have any concerns/questions, please contact your child's teacher or principal by email.
TCDSB parents, please also note that starting next week we will also be providing technical support through the Service Desk and information will be shared once available.
We continue to monitor communications from our families and are endeavouring to respond as quickly as possible. You can follow the TCDSB on Twitter and monitor our website for the latest news and information https://www.tcdsb.org/FORSTUDENTS/HealthandSafety/Pages/CoronavirusInfo.aspx
Sincerely,
