Dress Down Days During the year:
Students should be modestly dressed in keeping with our Catholic values.
Plain white or plain navy tops include:
- Short and long-sleeved collared shirts (polo, dress shirts)
- St. John t-shirts (Cross country, Swim team, Choir t-shirts, Athletics)
- New t-shirt available Spring 2019. Note: Plain crew neck t-shirts will be phased out by September 2019
- St. John crest available for purchase through the school
- Sweatshirts, hoodies, cardigans and sweaters worn indoors must be solid navy or white only
Plain navy blue bottoms include:
- Pants including capris, cargo pants, track pants
- Skirts and dresses - at or slightly above the knee
- Tunic dresses must be worn with a solid navy or white top
- Skorts, walking or athletic shorts - mid-thigh or longer
- Leggings - solid navy or white - permitted under skirts and dresses for all ages
- Wearing shorts underneath skirts and dresses is recommended but not required
- Blue leggings for older students (gr. 4-8) in solid fabric (no mesh) and worn with a school approved top that is thigh length
- Only girls in JK to Grade 3 may wear navy blue leggings as pants
Other clothing items include:
- Tights/Socks - under long pants, no requirement
- Solid navy blue or white, no patterns / different colours under shorts, skirts, dresses
- Shoes should be suitable for recess, gym and physical activity – running shoes are recommended, secure sandals when weather appropriate
- Hair accessories - only solid navy or white headbands, scrunchies, ties, etc.
What is Not Included / What Not to Wear
- Denim/jeans as mandated by TCDSB
- Hats and sunglasses are only to be worn outdoors (outdoor wear)
- For safety reasons, flip flops and slip on sandals without straps are not allowed
- Clothing with tears/holes
- Oversized clothing (shirts to the knee, pants hanging low and off the waist)
- Undergarments must not be visible
- No embellishments on clothing (bows, flowers, beads, sparkles, lace or lace overlay, toile, sequins)
Other Details
- St. John Spirit Wear (crested clothing with St John logo) is permitted to wear on any day.
- The only requirement for Physical Education (PE) class is that garments be navy and/or white. It is mandatory to change for Grades 4-8 for PE class.
- Footwear for Physical Education includes non-slip, non-marking soles
- There is no dress code requirement for student outerwear including outdoor sweaters, jackets, snow pants, hats, gloves, and sunglasses.
- St. John Spirit Wear (crested) items will be available for purchase from time to time
- It is recommended that parents / families label all clothing pieces clearly.
Dress Down Days During the year:
- Dress-down or non-dress code days will be planned. These days will be announced (i.e in the SjWAG) throughout the year, so parents and students can be prepared. Students have the option of wearing the dress code or regular clothes, which may include coloured clothing, denim/jeans, and logos. All other guidelines for what is not included should be followed.
